Kontur’s Eventful Three Weeks in the European GIS Community

The summer of 2024 has been incredibly eventful for Kontur and the entire European GIS community, marked by three consecutive thematic conferences: the QGIS User Conference, FOSS4G, and State of the Map (SotM). We are excited to share our experiences and photos from these events.

QGIS User Conference in Poznań, Poland

The marathon began with the QGIS User Conference in Poznań, Poland. This event gathered companies working with this well-known open-source application. Some have built entire businesses around it, while government organizations have integrated it into their systems, geoportals, and analytical departments.

The conference saw participation from many such public and commercial entities. We were fortunate to be among the event organizers and sponsors. During the conference, we connected with other organizers and participants, and were delighted to become part of the local QGIS user community.

FOSS4G Conference in Tartu, Estonia

A few days later, our team attended the FOSS4G conference in Tartu, Estonia. This annual event attracts professionals from the open-source GIS software sector.

Our team presented three talks on our open-source solutions: Disaster Ninja, Geocint, and the OpenAerialMap project, in which we participated. You can find the GitHub links to these projects here:

State of the Map in Łódź, Poland

The final event in this series was the State of the Map conference in Łódź. This event brought together numerous volunteers who contribute to the development of OpenStreetMap (OSM), as well as businesses and corporations that interact with OSM, use its data in their projects, and contribute to the overall project and community development. Kontur showcased Disaster Ninja from a new perspective, highlighting its usefulness for the development of the OpenStreetMap project. Connecting with the interesting contributors united by OSM, whose data powers Kontur’s innovative projects, was truly inspiring.

Conclusion

These three events, while targeting similar audiences from different angles and scales, are united by common themes: GIS, open-source, and community. At Kontur, we are committed to advancing these three areas and look forward to continuing our close relationships with the industry and its professionals.

We hope you enjoyed this brief overview of our recent activities and look forward to sharing more updates soon. Stay tuned!
